So far in 2026, IRCC has held 63 Express Entry rounds and issued 144,259 invitations. Of those, 21 rounds and 10,814 invitations went to provincial nominees. Most of the year's invitations have gone to people with ties to Canada: provincial nominees, Canadian Experience Class candidates and French speakers.
Why is the PNP cut-off so high?
An Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score. A cut-off of 761 means the lowest-ranked invited nominee had about 161 points before the nomination.
In practice, almost anyone who holds an Express Entry-aligned nomination is invited within a round or two. For many candidates, getting the nomination is the hard part. Here in Alberta, that usually means the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) Express Entry streams, which select candidates from the federal pool.
What changes in Express Entry on November 3?
On October 16, 2026, the Immigration Minister announced the biggest change to CRS scoring in years. It takes effect on November 3, 2026:
- A new "Labour Market Integration Factor." You receive whichever is higher: up to 100 points for a qualifying high-wage job offer, or up to 150 points for Canadian work experience (140 if you have an accompanying spouse or partner). The work-experience total combines existing points for years of Canadian experience with up to 70 new points for experience in a high-wage occupation.
- High-wage is based on occupation. An occupation qualifies if its national median wage is at least 1.3, 1.5 or 2 times the Canada-wide median. IRCC has published an initial list of 186 eligible occupations.
- No LMIA for qualifying job offers. A qualifying offer will no longer need a Labour Market Impact Assessment to earn points. The LMIA requirement is also being dropped from the job-offer criteria in the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades programs. Officers must still be satisfied that the offer is genuine.
- A pause in draws. IRCC will recalculate every profile in the pool and pause invitations while it does, which it estimates could take up to two weeks.
What should you do now?
If you received an ITA in this draw
- Start gathering documents today. You have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence.
- Don't wait for November 3. Your invitation is assessed under the rules in place on the day you were invited. The new points won't be added to an ITA you already hold.
- Make sure your application matches your profile. Your CRS score must still be supported by your documents when you apply.
If you're still in the pool
- Check whether your occupation is on the high-wage list. Your score could rise significantly after the recalculation.
- Update job-offer details before November 3. IRCC has advised candidates who may qualify for the new job-offer points to review and update their profiles before the change.
- Keep your language test and other documents valid. An expired test can remove you from the pool at the worst possible time.
- Look at provincial options. As this draw shows, a nomination remains the most reliable route to an invitation.
Common mistakes we see after an ITA
- Leaving police certificates to the end. Some countries take weeks or months to issue them, and the 60-day clock doesn't stop.
- Work experience that doesn't match the NOC duties. Your reference letters need to show you performed the main duties of the occupation you claimed, not just the job title.
- Profile details that differ from documents. Dates of employment, education or language scores that don't match can lead to refusal or a misrepresentation concern.
- Proof of funds that dips below the requirement. If you need settlement funds, the balance has to stay above the required amount, and large unexplained deposits raise questions.

Frequently asked questions
What was the CRS cut-off in the October 26, 2026 Express Entry draw?
The lowest-ranked candidate invited had a CRS score of 761. The draw was open only to candidates with a provincial or territorial nomination, and 792 invitations were issued.
Why are CRS cut-offs so high in Provincial Nominee Program draws?
An Express Entry-aligned provincial nomination adds 600 points to a candidate's CRS score. A cut-off of 761 therefore means the lowest invited candidate had about 161 points before the nomination was added.
Will Express Entry draws stop after November 3, 2026?
Temporarily. IRCC has said it will pause invitation rounds while it recalculates every profile's score under the new rules, which it estimates could take up to two weeks. Rounds resume once the recalculation is done.
I received an ITA in October. Should I wait until November 3 to apply?
No. Your invitation is assessed under the rules in place on the day you were invited, and you have 60 days to submit a complete application. Waiting will not add new points to an invitation you already hold.
Do I need an LMIA for a job offer to count in Express Entry after November 3?
For qualifying job offers in eligible high-wage occupations, no. From November 3, 2026, IRCC is removing the LMIA requirement for those offers to earn the new points and for the job-offer requirement in the Federal Skilled Worker and Federal Skilled Trades programs. Officers must still be satisfied the offer is genuine.
